 Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are you a lawyer, and can you help me fill out my divorce papers?

A: No. I am not an attorney, and I do not provide legal advice, legal strategy, or document selection. I cannot choose which forms you need or tell you what to write in the blanks. What I do provide is practical, administrative organization and emotional coaching. I point you directly to the official, free state court packets, help you organize your personal files (like bank statements and bills), and act as a calm project manager so you can confidently complete your process as a self-represented litigant.

Q: How can a Divorce Companion help me if my divorce is uncontested?

A: Even when a husband and wife agree on absolutely everything, the actual process of separating your lives is deeply overwhelming. The paperwork requires meticulous organization, the mandatory waiting periods are stressful, and the courtroom environment can cause severe anxiety. I bridge the gap between expensive legal counsel and clinical therapy. I keep your files organized, help you build independent household budgets, and stand by you as a steady, reassuring anchor so you never feel isolated.

Q: Can you actually come with me into the courtroom on my hearing day?

A: Yes! While I cannot step past the wooden bar, sit at the attorney’s table, or speak to the judge on your behalf, I can absolutely walk through the courthouse security with you, wait with you and your witness in the hallway, and sit directly behind you in the public viewing gallery. Having a supportive, familiar face in the room changes the entire emotional dynamic of your final hearing day.

Q: I am terrified about transitioning to financial independence. Can you help me handle the money panic?

A: Yes, this is exactly what my Independence & Transition Blueprint is designed for. I have been where you are standing and understand the middle-of-the-night anxiety of facing a new financial reality. While I do not give financial or legal advice regarding asset division, I sit down with you to look at your actual independent living costs. We map out a realistic, data-driven household budget, break the transition into bite-sized monthly milestones, and connect you with local career and community resources so you can step forward securely.

Q: I live in North Carolina / Georgia. Can I still work with you?

A: Absolutely! We operate as a regional network serving South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia. All of our deep-dive coaching, household budgeting, and file organization sessions are conducted virtually via secure video calls or phone sessions. If you require physical courtroom accompaniment on your final hearing day, we seamlessly connect you with one of our trusted, thoroughly vetted local 1099 Independent Contractors located right in your state to stand by your side.

Q: What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?

A: Because our schedule fills up quickly and our companions dedicate specific blocks of time to prepare for your sessions, we do not offer cancellations or refunds. However, we completely understand that life transitions are unpredictable. If a conflict arises, you can easily reschedule your session for a future date. We simply require at least a 24-hour notice prior to your appointment time to move your slot to a different day, completely free of charge.
